Estimates Hoy's Real Circulation will be Half of What was Claimed
New York,
N.Y. (September 10, 2004) Based on today's statement from
the Tribune Company, El Diario La Prensa is New York's
#1 Spanish language newspaper.
In a statement
released today by The Tribune Company, the publishers of Hoy stated
that, "Based on information gathered during Tribune's internal
investigation at Hoy, New York," daily circulation for the
six month period ending March 31, 2004, "is expected to be
between 40,000 and 50,000." Hoy has previously claimed ABC
paid circulation in New York in excess of 90,000. Hoy's ABC audit
for this period is not expected to be completed and released till
mid-November.
In a related
statement ABC said, "these projections are consistent with
what we currently anticipate will be in our soon to be completed
audit for this period."
"If these
new numbers are accurate," said Douglas Knight, Chairman
& CEO ImpreMedia, LLC, "they confirm El Diario's
position as the leading Spanish language newspaper in New York."
According
to the ABC publisher's statement for the six month period ending
March 31, 2004, El Diario La Prensa has paid circulation
of 50,076.
El Diario
has consistently been ranked the best read Spanish language newspaper
in New York, according to independent studies conducted by Scarborough
Research 2004, which show El Diario's average issue readership
at 256,270 compared to Hoy's average issue readership of 161,540.
