The winner selection process allowed
all Hispanic Chambers of Commerce throughout Chicago an opportunity
to nominate their most outstanding members.
La Raza
was also able to use its connection with the community to select
other Hispanic entrepreneurs who have been successful, but have
not yet established contact with a chamber of commerce.
Another
important aspect of this event is that La Raza and STAPLES
will provide $1,000 in the form of a scholarship under the name
of each awardee to the chamber of commerce of his/her choice.
"I'm
very proud of La Raza's record in fulfilling its commitment
and its mission of empowering Chicago's Hispanic community through
education. I'm honored to present these awards on behalf of
Staples and La Raza as an affirmation of our efforts
and the positive impact that we have made to the quality of
life for our community," stated Robert J. Armband, Publisher
and CEO of La Raza Newspaper.
In 2003,
La Raza established the Luis H. Rossi/La Raza Scholarship
fund. Since then, the newspaper has provided several scholarships
to deserving Hispanic students through community based organizations
including: The Little Village Chamber of Commerce, The Puerto
Rican Parade Committee of Chicago, St Augustine College, CUPULA,
The Central American Civic Society and the National Association
of Hispanic Publications.
The Winners:
La Raza
and STAPLES will present the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce
with the "Best Business Agenda" award and the Little
Village Chamber of Commerce with the "Best Cultural Agenda"
award.
The five Chicago Latino business leaders who will be recognized
during this event are: Lorenzo Padron, Arabel Rosales, Adela
Cepeda, Juan Soto and Jaime Rojkind. We hope that they continue
to be a role model and examples to all Hispanics.
More than
250 community and business leaders will attend this year's Premio
Empresarial La Raza taking place at Galleria Marchetti in Chicago.
The event takes place Tuesday August 15, 2006 from 12:30 p.m.
to 2:30 p.m. and it is by invitation only.
