Actor Lauren Velez To Receive “Woman of the Year in the Arts” Honors
(New York, NY, April 17, 2008) – El Diario La Prensa, the premier publication to reach New York-area Latinos, will host the groundbreaking 13 th Annual Mujeres Destacadas Awards Luncheon on April 20, 2008, at The Mandarin Oriental Hotel. Previous recipients of the award have come from business, industry, government, non-profit and entertainment, but the common thread they share is they have all reached a level of distinction and, through their hard work and determination, have made a difference in the community. Past honorees include New York State Secretary of State Lorraine Cortez-Vazquez; Antonia Novello, former U.S. Surgeon General; New York television anchor Lynda Lopez; actors Ana Ortiz, Rosario Dawson and Miriam Colon, and Patricia Velasquez, actress/supermodel.
El Diario La Prensa , in its 95 th anniversary year, will present the Woman of the Year Award to Daisy Fuentes, the well-known actress, model and entrepreneur. She will join over 40 other women of distinction, including: Ana Ledo, Univision reporter; Karen Olivio of “In the Heights”; Denise Oller, Emmy nominated television personality and cookbook author; Jackie Bird, president and CEO of Wing Latino; Celebrity Chef Elsie Ramos of “Hell’s Kitchen” and Soprano Eva de la O. Actor Lauren Velez, most recently known for her work on “Dexter”, will be presented with the “Woman of the Year in the Arts” Award.
