CEO & Chairman of ImpreMedia, John Paton, wins distinguished Print Award at Adweek’s Marketing y Medios’ Media All-Stars Awards Inaugural Ceremony
New York, NY (April 10, 2006) – ImpreMedia Newspapers CEO and Chairman, John Paton, is the first recipient of the 2006 Adweek’s Marketing y Medios’ Media All-Stars Awards in the Print category, presented at the Association of Hispanic Advertising Agencies’ (AHAA) 20th Semi-Annual Conference on Friday. The first annual Media All-Stars Awards is setting a precedent to honor the most extraordinary professionals in Hispanic media in six major categories including Media Executive of the Year, Television, Radio, Print, Interactive and Out of Home.
In two years, Paton has revolutionized the Spanish-language newspaper industry by creating the largest Spanish-language newspaper company in the United States. ImpreMedia publishes seven publications in six markets, home to 16 million Hispanics – more than 37 percent of the total U.S. Hispanic population.
“Marketing y Medios is proud to honor John Paton of ImpreMedia for his exceptional work and pioneering vision which led to the creation of the largest Spanish-language newspaper company in the nation and raised the bar of excellence within the industry,” said Publisher Michael Hatherill. “This award aims to also praise the talented team of industry influentias that comprise ImpreMedia.”
“I am truly honored to be acknowledged by such a prestigious and reputable entity in the Hispanic media and marketing industry and be part of this exclusive group of extraordinary professionals and visionaries,” said John Paton, CEO and Chairman of ImpreMedia. “This award commends the remarkable and talented group of professionals that make ImpreMedia what it is today, a true leader in the industry that has a legacy of producing quality products of the finest content.”
Joining Paton in the leadership of ImpreMedia are Jose Lozano, Vice Chairman, Rossana Rosado, publisher of El Diario La Prensa in New York, and Monica Lozano, Senior Vice President and publisher of La Opinión in Los Angeles.
Since its inception two years ago, ImpreMedia has received various awards recognizing their hard work, dedication and leadership in the Latino community including the prestigious Visionary Print Media Award at the Multicultural Media Expo in February 2006. In addition, ImpreMedia Newspapers have lead in Excellence Awards from the National Association of Hispanic Publications (NAHP) in the past two years.
Prior to his role in creating ImpreMedia, Paton was one of the top publishers in Canada and, as vice-president of Canada’s second-largest newspaper corporation, has experience simultaneously running newspapers in multiple markets. For almost three decades, Paton has been a prominent and respected media executive who has successfully blended a unique range of experiences and accomplishments.
His expertise in media, mergers and acquisitions played a key role in the successful creation of ImpreMedia LLC. Under his impressive leadership, companies such as the Ottawa Sun and the London Free Press grew both in revenues and profitability, in addition to becoming award-winning publications recognized by the National Newspaper Awards – Canada’s equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize.
Paton, along with the complete list of this year’s Media All-Stars honorees, is profiled in the April issue of Marketing y Medios.
