Los Angeles, CA (March 27, 2007) – La Opinión, the leading Spanish-language newspaper in the United States announces today the Mujeres Destacadas (Exceptional Women), an annual recognition and awards ceremony to be held in Los Angeles.

The daily newspaper, the weekly La Opinión CONTIGO and La Opinión Digital, will highlight Latinas that have distinguished themselves through outstanding service in the fields of Health, Education, Business or Technology and Arts & Culture on a volunteer or professional level.

“Latinas have a long tradition of service, and yet too often their contributions go unnoticed and unheralded. Mujeres Destacadas is an opportunity for us to publicly say ‘Thank You’ to these extraordinary local heroes,” stated Monica Lozano, CEO & Publisher of La Opinión.

The awards are based on the principle that a single person can make a difference. Across the Southland in local neighborhoods, Latina women are the driving forces behind important efforts to improve the quality of life in our society. La Opinión has partnered with Bank of America, Time-Warner, Sur, Continental Airlines, Nielson, Deloitte, and AARP to produce this extraordinary first annual event.

The awards ceremony will be held on March 27th at the Wilshire Grand Hotel in Los Angeles at a noon luncheon. Attendance is by invitation only. Mistress of Ceremonies will be Teresa Quevedo, News Anchor for Univision and the Keynote Speaker will be Maria Marin renowned, author and inspirational Speaker.
