La Opinión’s 2nd Annual “Exceptional Women” Awards Ceremony

Los Angeles, CA (March 24, 2008) – La Opinión, the leading Spanish-language daily newspaper in the U.S., announces its 2nd annual Mujeres Destacadas (Exceptional Women) recognition and awards ceremony to be held at the Cathedral Plaza in downtown Los Angeles on Thursday, March 27, 2008.

Thirty-one women from across the Southland who have distinguished themselves through outstanding service in the fields of leadership, health, education, business/technology and arts & culture on a volunteer or professional level will be honored at this event.

“The Mujeres Destacadas program is based on the principle that individuals can a make a difference in the lives of many. Latinas are often the driving force behind efforts to improve the quality of life in our neighborhoods and this is our opportunity to thank these local heroes,” stated Monica Lozano, CEO and Publisher of La Opinión.

A biography of each honoree will appear in La Opinión as well as online at laopinion.com. La Opinión’s weekend publications, La Opinión Contigo and Domingo will also showcase the nominees in a special double page feature on March 30, 2008. Sponsors such as Time Warner Cable, Wells Fargo, Macy’s, Nielsen and others have partnered to produce another extraordinary event to applaud these local women and their efforts.

The awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, March 27th at the Cathedral Plaza in downtown Los Angeles for a noon luncheon. This year’s Keynote Speaker is María Antonieta Collins, one of the most recognized personalities on U.S. Spanish-language television and best-selling author. Mistress of Ceremonies is Patti Lopez, the morning deejay co-host with Rick Dees on MOVIN 93.9 FM (RICK DEES IN THE MORNING ®).
