The American Society of Plastic Surgeons noted a 66.7 percent increase of Latinas who underwent surgery last year compared to 2004. According to Julie Albright, sociology professor at the University of Southern California, American media has imposed “impossible bodies” for women to achieve.

Spanish-Speaking Nannies in Demand
The Cambridge, Mass.-based Cultural Care Au Pair and the San Francisco-based AuPairCare have reported high demands for Spanish-speaking providers. An internal study conducted this fall by AuPairCare revealed that 91 percent of their families believe it’s important to have their child learn a second language; and 70 percent of those families gear towards Spanish.

A recent survey conducted in the Southwest by several college professors revealed that the term Hispanic is favored over the term Latino by those of Spanish origin.

Lack of Nutritious Food in Latino Communities
According to a resent report released by the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), one in every five Latinos faces food insecurity and has less access to nutritious food. The result of an inadequate nutrition leads to tremendous health consequences to the well-being of the Latino Community.

Aging Population of Latinos Expected to Triple in 20 Years
According to the U.S. Census, the Hispanic aging community could triple in the next 20 years from 2.2 million in 2005 to 13.8 million in 2050. Research has shown that Hispanic live longer than the general population despite their financial and health disadvantages; however, it doesn’t mean they are living longer healthier lives.
