Latina and Latino Nurses: Why Are There So Few?
The report sheds light on the current and estimated shortages of nursing professionals in the United States. Such a shortage signifies a growing concern that challenges the integrity of the health care system and the quality of patient care for minority patients. In addition, the scarcity of Latino and Latino nurses fuels the lack of ethnic diversity within the nursing profession, as well as among medical professionals. The study offers recommendations for polices that would likely add to the involvement and opportunities of Latinos and Latinas within the nursing workforce.
