“Latino children now constitute a majority or near majority of first graders in nine of the nation’s largest cities, according to analysis conducted by the Tomas Rivera Policy Institute (TRPI) at the University of Southern California. In cities such as Los Angeles and Dallas the percentage of Hispanic Fist graders is even higher – three out of four fist graders in these school districts (see Table). In 2020, the demographic wave of Latino fist graders will graduate from high school and enter collegiate education or the labor market."

Asian and Hispanic Children More Likely to Dine With Their Parents
“Hispanic and Asian children under 12 were more likely to eat dinner with a parent every day in a typical week than children who were non-Hispanic white or black (Table D7), according to new data released by the U.S. Census Bureau. This package of 30 tables makes up A Child’s Day (Selected Indicators of Child Well-Being): 2006, which examines the welfare of children and their daily activities."

Hispanics Become More Prevalent on College Campuses
“Hispanic students comprised 12 percent of full-time college students (both undergraduate and graduate students) in 2007, up from 10 percent in 2006, according to U.S. Census Bureau tables released. Hispanics comprise 15 percent of the nation’s total population. School Enrollment in the United States: 2007 contains eight detailed tables based on statistics collected in the October School Enrollment Supplement to the Current Population Survey. The national-level data are shown by characteristics such as age, sex, race, Hispanic origin, family income, type of college, employment status and vocational course enrollment."

Hispanics Rush to Get Online With Cell Phones
“New Mintel report shows online Hispanics adopting new Internet technologies fastest As Internet technology spins ahead, US Hispanics are clamoring to stay on top of the latest and greatest in online communication. A new report from market research firm Mintel shows that online Hispanic adults are quickly surpassing other demographic groups in acquiring new online communication skills. Mintel’s exclusive consumer survey found Hispanics who use the Internet devote nearly three times as much time weekly to browsing websites on their cell phones (1.1 hours versus 0.4 hours for non-Hispanics). Additionally, online Hispanics spend nearly twice as much time using social networking websites or chatting via instant messaging (5 hours versus 3.5 hours)."

“This statistical profile of the foreign-born population is based on Pew Hispanic Center tabulations of the Census Bureau's 2007 American Community Survey (ACS). The ACS is the largest household survey in the United States, with a sample of about 3 million addresses. It covers virtually the same topics as those in the long form of the decennial census. The ACS is designed to provide estimates of the size and characteristics of the resident population, which includes persons living in households and, for the first time, persons living in group quarters.”
