The Number of Hispanic Online Users is Increasing Faster Than General Market Users
US Hispanics online are outpacing general market online users by a 6.5 factor according to a new study from Terra Networks who used traffic figures from comScore Media Metrix. The study found that between the end of 2005 and the end of 2006, US Hispanic online users increased by 13% whereas the general market had a 2% increase during the same time period.

ImpreMedia Acquires Hoy New York from the Tribune Company
ImpreMedia, LLC, the nation's leading Spanish-language newspaper and online news publisher, announced the acquisition of the Hoy New York publication along with its weekend publication Fin De Semana from the Tribune Company earlier this month. With the acquisition of Hoy New York, ImpreMedia will have a strong combination of free and paid dailies in the New York market. - The pending acquisition does not include the Hoy publications in Los Angeles and Chicago.

Bilingual Employees Rewarded with Pay Incentives
“It seems learning two languages is literally paying off. Studies have shown bilinguals make between 5%-20% more per hour — especially those who hold government positions. And Spanish is the language most in demand. The U.S. Census Bureau reports Hispanic buying power reached $700 billion last year.”

La Opinión Hires Andres Fuentes as Vice President of Sales
La Opinión, the leading Spanish-language newspaper in the United States, proclaimed Andres Fuentes as the new Vice President of Sales. Hispanic College Students Perform Better When Part of Large Hispanic Communities
A new study headed by a professor in the University of Florida’s College of Education found that Hispanic students in community colleges are more likely to earn higher grades and complete their courses when enrolled in community colleges with large Hispanic populations.

Mexican-American Road Blocks for College
High school students of Mexican decent dream of going on to college equally as the rest of their peers, only researchers at the University of Oregon say “minority students see many more hurdles in their paths.” Ellen Hawley McWhirter, a professor of counseling at the University of Oregon asks, “What are we going to do as a society to dismantle those barriers so that they can achieve their goals and make the contributions they want to give to our communities?”
